As is our custom at MCJC, the High Holy Days ushered in our “Corners of our Fields” food drive, in conjunction with Mazon: A Jewish Response to Hunger. This year we collected food for McHenry West High School and personal care items for the Old Firehouse Assistance Center in Woodstock.
The “Food for Thought” program at McHenry West High School is “providing hope and dignity to children by discreetly supplying additional food to students in need.” These two community service agencies were extremely grateful for all of the donations we made.
When MCJC delivered the items to the Old Firehouse, we were greeted with, “What great timing! We didn’t think we were going to make it through today!” At McHenry West High School, we were surrounded by a contingent of kids who helped unload the car after exclaiming, “Did you buy all of this?”
Todah Rabbah to MCJC members Bruce Weiss and Cheryl Meyers for providing the link to these two extraordinary groups and to Miles Purvin and Hunter Purvin for helping to load the cars.
Please feel free to donate to these agencies any time throughout the year. The Old Firehouse is always looking for volunteers and for personal care items, and students are always hungry!
