An Interfaith Program: Planting the Seeds of Community & Friendship

Our neighbors at Resurrection Catholic Church invite us to join their community on the evening of Friday, January 4, 2019 at 6:00 pm for a presentation, community meal, and conversation.

All ages are welcome! Children’s activities and babysitting will be provided.

Dr. Anne M. Carpenter presents biblical accounts of Mary and how those accounts were incorporated into the theology of early and Medieval Christianity.

We will continue the evening with a community meal and conversation.

This event is convened by Resurrection Catholic Church, AMCO, the Ridgefield Presbyterian Church and McHenry County Jewish Congregation. We will meet on this occasion at Resurrection, 2918 S. Country Club Rd., Woodstock, Illinois, 60098.

Future fellowship events for adults, youth and children will be on a quarterly basis, moving around among our various places of worship. The culmination of this year’s Seeds of Friendship is planning and planting a vegetable garden next summer, and taking the harvest to a local soup kitchen or food pantry in fall of 2019.

Please RSVP so we know how to plan the food:

Join FaithBridge for the 9th Annual Martin Luther King, Jr. Interfaith Prayer Breakfast

Last Sunday evening, MCJC members joined the FaithBridge Interfaith Thanksgiving program “Living in Unity: Within Diversity All Are One,” held in McHenry at the Tree of Life Unitarian Universalist Congregation.

Especially after the warm community support MCJC had at our Solidarity Shabbat Vigil following the Pittsburgh shooting a few weeks ago, it was good to see some familiar faces at this inspirational service.

FaithBridge’s next event is the 9thAnnual Martin Luther King, Jr. Interfaith Prayer Breakfast on January 21, 2019 from 7:30 am to 9:30 a.m.  For tickets, please visit www.faithbridgeinterfaith.org/martin-luther-king-jr-prayer-breakfast.

A Musical Gathering at the Raue Center

MCJC Connections
January/February 2018 ~ Tevet/Shevat/Adar ~ Vol. 5778

On Sunday, January 28, 2018 over 150 children and youth from six of the best children’s ensembles of the Chicago metropolitan area who represent various faith and ethnic traditions will gather at the Raue Center for the Arts (26 N Williams Street, Crystal Lake) for a day of interfaith music and dance.

The day culminates with a public concert called “The Sounds of Faith.” It will include song, dance, recitation, and chant from Islamic, Jewish, Christian, and Hindu traditions. All of the participants will join together in a shared anthem, “Peace in the Desert,” composed and conducted by the well-known composer, Lee Kesselman.

Tickets are available online at https://www.faithbridgeinterfaith.org/. FaithBridge, a local interfaith consortium in the Northwestern suburbs of Chicago, and the Harran Productions Foundation are sponsors for this event.

Endorsed by the Parliament for World Religions, this “Sounds of Faith” concert will inaugurate local celebrations of World Interfaith Harmony Week sponsored by the United Nations. Over 1,000 events are anticipated worldwide through February 8, but this may be the only one to focus entirely on children.

Groups that will participate include Campanella Children’s Choir,
Northbrook, the Nasheed Club of the Islamic Foundation School of
Villa Park, the Little Warriors for Christ and Imani Ya Watume of Trinity United Church of Christ, Chicago, the Children’s Kathak Dance Ensemble, Schaumburg, and the Chicago Children’s Choir – Rogers Park & Humboldt Park Neighborhood Choirs.
