If we imagine we are all connected to each other and to the planet, then we know that our personal choices impact everyone and everything. That is both an awesome responsibility and a powerful idea, that we can have an impact through the decisions we make every day.
The Torah is the original plan for conscious living. Torah study gives us an opportunity to explore the wisdom of our tradition and use it to make choices about what we eat, how we relate to other life on the planet and to the planet itself.
As our Conscious Choice Initiative evolves over time, it will offer programs and opportunities for every age to study and engage. The initiative is a work in progress and we welcome ideas!
Here are a few broad topic areas where we expect to develop programs:
KASHRUT AND BEYOND
HEALTHY US, HEALTHY PLANET
TZEDEK TIRDOF: WHAT DOES JUSTICE HAVE TO DO WITH WHAT’S ON OUR PLATES?
STEWARDS OF THE EARTH: ENVIRONMENT
SUSTAINABILITY CLOSE TO HOME
COMMUNITY SUPPORTED AGRICULTURE (CSA)
Even if you don’t live on a farm, you can still enjoy farm fresh food with MCJC’s Community Supported Agriculture program. Through our Conscious Living Initiative, we’ve linked up with Bob’s Fresh and Local, part of Local Harvest, a national organization supporting local agriculture.
It’s really easy and affordable to be a part of this program. As a subscriber, you’ll receive a box of farm-fresh organic produce every Wednesday during six months of the year along with recipes specific to that week’s box mix, prepared by congregant, Leslie Cook.
