I offer a series of videos to inspire learning in our Video Library. I encourage your active online engagement with your comments on these videos.
THE WEEKLY TORAH PORTION WITH RABBI TOM
The ancient Jewish sages describe the Torah as a love letter from God to humanity. Every year, Jews re-read, re-examine, and struggle with this letter on the Shabbat and the Jewish holidays. And yes, it is a struggle. A process of alchemy to mesh these inspiring and yet difficult texts with our own beautiful and complicated lives.
Here in our blog you can follow some of my brief thoughts and ideas (Jewish Learning/Torah Portions). But all I can do is to bring my own read on the text, my own soul, my own intellectual honesty.
The Jewish tradition’s approach to learning, Shetat Beit Ha’Midrash in Hebrew, demands that even though we might all sit together (or read the same email), every one of us is a master of our own seat.
Please share with me your own thoughts, ideas, and especially disagreements. My hope is to inspire further discussions, queries and struggles, as all of us become more active, and more engaged co-creators of sacred Jewish spaces and times.
As with all of these online learning sections, The Jewish Holidays is a work-in-progress.
JEWISH IDEAS & THOUGHTS WITH RABBI TOM
Thoughts, ideas, talks, interviews and more, a growing section to stimulate conversation.
There is no better way to enjoy and learn about our Jewish musical heritage than to hear and sing.
Oh, one more way: please join us in worship, celebration and joyful times throughout the year. Find out why McHenry County Jewish Congregation is the Jewish heart and soul of McHenry County.
